New Arena=Future UTEP BB Home?

The Don has hosted a SmackDown taping and two WCW Nitros. The stages can fit. Those events were sold out however. Nothing needed to be scaled.

Don't forget that aside from the lack of floor space it's a little hard to fit an elaborate stage set in there as well. There's a reason why El Paso/Las Cruces get those WWE House shows and not a Monday Night Raw. You can't fit sets like that in The Don.

I know somebody that is a stagehand and that is the main reason why a lot of the events/concerts go to Las Cruces. When Britney Spears came here they couldn't even do their full act because there just wasn't enough room.

The arena needs to get built this year at the original proposed site. This is the best site in downtown. City council needs to move forward with the plan and get the project started. Was Lily Limon sleeping this whole time? She proposed building it in NE, when the voters approved a Downtown Arena.

Smackdown, Nitro, Spears were all in the round. UTEP does fine with those, it's the end stage set up that sucks. I went to the WWE in Las Cruces last year, really scaled down production value. But the entertainment value was good, Seth Rollins and John Cena.

Speaking of SmackDown. La Tech and UAB just had a heck of a brawl. Both benches cleared, will be interesting to see if either team has a team left. 412-31 if you've got DISH

Those house shows have the most pathetic backdrops. You could put that thing up in a Middle School gym if you had to. Those WWE house shows sell out every time they come to EP and Las Cruces. If we had a modern arena that could handle their stage/rigging we would definitely get a Raw/Smackdown. Corpus Christi had a PPV 2 years back, so there is no reason to think that a new arena wouldn't attract something of that magnitude right off the bat. Plus, you could configure the floor space so you could have arena football, indoor soccer, ice hockey, concerts etc. The Don is just a basketball court

Hopefully if the arena gets built, the developers do not make the same mistake like the Haskins Center lighting. The DHC does not allow the lights to be dimmed.Get something like this:
