OT: Corona virus Questions

You too. Thanks. I guess we will have wait and see if the IRS comes after him. Maybe they have already if that's the case.

BTW I didn't pay any taxes then last year. The government actually gave me $5000. Its on my tax return.

Just because someone doesn't pay taxes does not mean they were filed incorrectly.

KVIA.COM:

EL PASO, Texas – The University of Texas at El Paso is reporting that 72 students, faculty and staff tested positive for coronavirus last week.

That’s out of a record-high 2,691 who were tested, for a positivity rate of 2.7 percent for the week, according to UTEP officials.

UTEP officials also pointed out that the positivity rate for the greater El Paso community is 11.1 percent.

Fifty-three percent of the positive tests involved people who are taking online classes or working remotely.

“The increase in UTEP cases was not unexpected given the substantial increase in positive cases reported by the city of El Paso in recent weeks,” read a press release from the university.

UTEP said when it identifies a positive person who has been on campus, it immediately notifies anyone who may have been in contact with the person and encourages them to be tested. The affected workspace or classroom is also thoroughly cleaned.

UTEP also said it will continue to work with faculty to identify ways in-person and hybrid classes can be adjusted to “further decrease density on campus.”

Possible adjustments can include moving courses into larger classrooms or even outdoors.

"Covid you will overwhelm the health care system very easily if we don’t take personal responsibility,” Dr. Ocaranza said.

I want to see UTEP finish their full slate of games. The team is doing their part and being the leaders in local social prevention. I would be pissed to hear a player get Covid because he just went to Taco Bell or Canes Chicken near the campus to get lunch or dinner and got infected because some careless person who was partying the night before or had to attend the local family pachanga or $3 shots at the local "restaurant" engage in community spread.

"Health officials announced 415 new cases and 35 "delayed" positive results. These are results that the state is just now reporting to the local health department.

El Paso County currently has 6,325 known active cases, which is a new record. Since the start of the pandemic, El Paso has had 29,384 confirmed cases and 22,376 reported recoveries."

How many people in your lives have caught Corona Virus? I’ve certainly experienced an uptick.

Three friends and a cousin. Like two months ago it was no one in my orbit.

717 this morning. El Paso officials imposing restrictions at 9:30 am MST press conference.

Before we trash talk El Paso I came down to Arizona and people here yell at people for wearing masks. Not everyone of course or most. I just haven’t experienced that in El Paso.

El Paso county had more cases in one day than Travis county had in one week.

Trump has inspired me to not give a f anymore. If he survived it so will I.

Corona, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the dangers of COVID. It certainly is true that you will almost certainly survive it. While I've only met you once, you certainly seemed fairly young and healthy. Given that those impressions are true, should you contract COVID you probably wouldn't need to be hospitalized. Likely you would be asked to self quarantine for 10 to 14 days and monitor your condition. Now if you did need to be hospitalized, note that you would not receive the same level of care as POTUS. Still, no matter what, the probability that you would survive COVID is very, very high.

There are still reasons to be concerned, however. I recommend Googling "COVID long haulers" and reading my post on my son: https://utep.forums.rivals.com/threads/ot-covid-19s-effects-can-be-far-reaching.10150/

There are definitely chances that your health might be adversely affected even after "recovering" from COVID. Continue to take the necessary precautions.

Please disregard. I was being an arrogant sarcastic as$hole. Of course I’m still scared of getting infected.

Who is trash talking EP? The cases were in double digits daily a few weeks ago. Then up to the 300 hundred area 10 days ago. Now more than double that.

Not talking trash about EP. Just amazed at the increase. I know how well EP has done up to this point. For big cities in Texas, El Paso has fared well. I completely attribute that to the precautions that have been taken.

Aside from throwing an objective data point or two out there, and maybe a metaphor here and there for the increase in cases, you’d be hard pressed to find anything negative that I’ve said about El Paso. It’s where I was born and raised for nearly the first half of my life.

Keep on mind that we haven't even hit 5% of the EP population. At this rate we could easily get to 60-70,000 by the end of the year.

Not you. I’m not talking to you. I’ve seen comments online.

We lost our neighbor 2 days ago. He was 81 pneumonia was the main culprit but he had tested positive for covid three weeks ago. We have been getting about 200 to 400 daily positives in Clark County for the last few weeks. Which is a lot lower than the summer numbers. But this is real shit going down. I got the news that my aunt 70s' and my cousin ( her daughter 40s' tested positive) both are showing symptoms in El Paso. I've urged my mom to stop visiting them. It's tough because they are the only 2 of 6 siblings left alive.

Mrs 2step just told me her friend (here in El Paso) just texted her: "my brother works at the hospital (name kept out for privacy) and just said they have more Covid patients than they have rooms to provide"

Shit is hitting the fan folks. I'm wondering if it is even safe to have the UTEP vs USM game?

I have not shared this with you all and I hope you take it as a positive. I am a 60 yo male who tested positive 2 weeks ago. I have had mild flu symptoms and have been blessed that the disease did not take a nasty turn. I did all the appropriate mask wearing and social distancing and was utterly shocked that I turned in a positive test.
A couple of takeaways from my situation:

1. Masks and being careful are not sure fire methods to not contract this disease. It can improve your odds but there are no guarantees.
2. The vast majority of people who get this will survive and go on with their lives.
3. I was mildly anxious at first, not knowing which way this disease would progress. But with each passing day that my condition did not get worse, I felt more confident of a positive outcome. Unless you are bad off, Doctors will tell you to deal with it at home and come in if you get significantly worse or you have trouble breathing.
4. Hospital treatments now are leaps and bounds better than they were in March and April. We are actually learning more in what to do in hospitals. This should be a source of comfort to all.

If you know anyone with this it is important you let them know you are thinking, praying and be a source of encouragement. My family and friends helped me overcome those times that doubt and fear entered in my mind. Together we can all get through this.

Tough situation. So many in a similar situation.

A little different, but my father in law, who has had cancer for 4-5 years now, made his mind up to just live life as if covid doesn’t exist because of his already decreased life expectancy. My wife and I feel caught between a rock and a hard place. Any little sniffle and we fear getting anywhere near him, whereas he wants to be around us as much as possible while he is still around.

Glad you are doing well Dave. I had another colleague test positive last week. He is doing well too. Thats makes about 10 that I know. Three were hospitalized and one passed (Daniel Morales). Another is facing a long recovery as he was ventilated for a very long time.

Treatments right now basically consists of Steroids, zinc sulfate, vitamin C&D and emperic antibiotics if needed. Convalescent plasma and then finally anti-viral replication medication if oxygen requirements worsen (requires and ID specialist to order).

Did you by chance lose taste and/or other senses?

I read the culprit of the virus is that it finds tissue (typically respiratory as we know), tricks the cell walls to let it in basically and if successful, it f's up the DNA and if you survive it, you're literally scarred for life. Yes you do develop antibodies but they only last a few months so YES, you can get reinfected.

I have about 20% of my taste and smell and it appears to be improving a little every day

My recommendation and I ain't no doctor

Invest in a good mask. If you want to know if you have a good mask, use a cigarette lighter and try to blow it out, if the flame moves or goes out on the lighter you don't have a good mask.
