"“U.S. oil demand is about back to where it was pre-COVID. But oil production takes a lot longer to restart than oil consumption.”

“With the cost of oil accounting for more than half of the pump price, more expensive oil means more expensive gasoline,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs, said in a release. “Locally, prices have now moved past those record high levels of early March.”

Struggling dad when my first born came into the world some years back and not having much money to get formula and diapers at times but I didn't have to worry about supply shortages. That. F'en. Sucks. Rocks. Damn.

I still don't understand why they don't breastfeed their kids or at least pump that milk out. It's much much healthier and much much more economical on the wallet.

For thousands of years throughout human history, wet nurses were used for women who couldn't lactate or couldn't produce enough. For women who had twins etc... Hence Formula came along to help children survive and help their mothers as well.

But to me it is ridiculous that everytime their is a crisis in this shitshow leadership that the finger is pointed and no action is taken.

High Gas prices - You should buy a different car because you're part of the problem

No formula - you should breastfeed anyway

Supply Chain Crisis - you should've shopped earlier for Christmas Presents

Inflation - the Senate Failed to Pass Trillion dollar spending bills and Americans have bad spending habits

Border Crises - its made up

Things are going poorly and people need to be held accountable.

So you do want the government to help the people? I thought that was socialism?

We need a tanker truck full of breastmilk running across the country Mad Max style.

Inflation has more to do with corporate greed (higher and higher profit margins at the expense of the lowly paid and lowly benefited plebes) than any elected official. It's a free market after all.

And now a Diesel Gas Shortage is looming and the possibility of Gas Rationing.
The problem is we lack the refining capacity. We are the world's leading oil producer. Production has remained remained steady under Biden. The issue is we don't have enough refineries. This has been an issue brewing for a quarter century. There is no quick fix. Refineries take years to construct and get online. The problem is nobody wants one in their backyard.

Why was it not a problem before??

"From a federal regulatory standpoint, once a permit is approved, industry can proceed.

Companies have to contract rigs to drill the wells, and build a sufficient inventory of permits before rigs are contracted, said Jennifer Pett, a spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Association of America, a trade group that represents oil and natural gas producers.

Thousands of unused permits are not uncommon in any presidential administration.

They have to be sure that the costly investment (and time) that it takes to turn a lease into a producing well is worth it.

There is actually an incentive for the companies not to develop these resources because for publicly traded companies, these reserves get reported and influence market valuation, Daigle said.

"Sometimes there might not really even be producible oil and gas on a lease," Daigle said. "Companies sometimes hold leases as a bit of a mind game with their competitors, or even just because they didn’t properly assess the production potential prior to leasing due to lack of data or that sort of thing."

Because oil is sold on the global market. We didn't ever buy much Russian oil it genetrally made up 3% of our inventory but Europe depended on it. Now they have an embargo on Russian oil and they have to replace it from other sources. It tightens the supply chain. We haven't seen this kind of Military conflict in Europe since WW2 which to answer your question is why it hasn't been a problem.

"But eight years earlier, the formula industry rejected an opportunity to take a more proactive approach — not only for increasing supply capacity, but also for preventing a potential outbreak. Records show that the industry successfully mobilized against a 2014 proposal from the FDA to increase regular safety inspections of plants used to manufacture baby formula.

At the time, the FDA had proposed rules to prevent the adulteration of baby formula in any step of the process in order to prevent contamination from salmonella and Cronobacter sakazakii, which led to this year’s Sturgis plant shutdown."

So, what you are saying is that in the last 2 years, there has been a larger demand globally and this administration has chosen to keep supplying the world instead of changing things up and regulating how much of the gas the USA produces goes to other countries, we decided to make our own citizens suffer. Got it.
Here's my take...IF we produce more oil than any other country in the world and our prices are sky high, cut off the rest of the world. In all honesty, it makes no dame sense to produce the most oil on the planet and still buy from elsewhere. Renew the leases, open pipelines, keep America first.

It does when you think you will be the last country with oil AND you want to save the planet.

Given the fact though that countries will have oil for 100-200 years though I think that original plan should be out the window. I agree we should use our own oil while working on alternatives so we can help ourselves.

Biden stated "we knew about this problem months ago" yet they keep send formula to ukraine and the illegals flocking in the border ILLEGALLY. Meanwhile letting us run dry. What is wrong with you folks? EVERYONE should be pissed off.
I also read where the "tainted" formula products for Abbott company showed zero connection to their actual products but the FDA won't let them produce again.....Amazing if true

I just don't think "save the planet" is the end all here. While I will agree we should be working towards better ideas, cutting off gas supplies at the head isn't the way to FORCE change. Most folks I know (includung myself) can't afford electric cars. They are not efficient overall yet. How is the electricity produced? How much to replace a battery? we all know it will happen. Parts?

We should ease into this instead of force feeding it all at once. I honestly feel this is what they are doing to "change" what we do.

😁😁😁 This or any other administration doesn't dictate what oil companies do with the oil they produce. Nor can they tell them to start drilling on the thousands and thousands of approved leases they already have. They can incentivize them (legal bribery) by giving these already gout-ridden corporations tax breaks and subsidies (free taxpayer money). Which is what they want. And Republicans love to give them( the greedy corporations) what they want. Don't get me wrong some Democrats like to give them what they (Greedy corporations) want, but Republicans love to do it.

The irony of this whole “move to electric” vehicles is the fact that we’re pushing the shit pile somewhere else. Instead of global warming and fossil fuels we’re stuck storing tons of radioactive material in mountains and facilities for hundreds if not thousands of years. Plutonium for example has a half life of 24,000 years. These storage facilities will be radioactive LONG after the United States is dead and gone. I don’t know if that’s a fair trade off. Plus our nation’s electric grid has shown a propensity for failure during times of high usage and extreme weather, could it handle powering even 10-20% of our nation’s cars if they were electric?

https://www.epa.gov/ozone-layer-protection

So the EPA is saying the ozone layer should be repaired by 2065. I think that may be complete bullshit but is it worth fixing the ozone layer in 40 years to have mountains full of radioactive material for 24,000?
