We haven't invited anyone yet.We just picked up 3 WAC schools! 2 of which have been members for less than 2 years! The epitome of success!

Technically yes. Do you think CUSA isn’t inviting those WAC teams? We haven't invited anyone yet.

This is the best response I have read all week and the first to make me smile since this realignment started.Joe Golding went from playing teams like Tarleton State to playing teams like Tarleton State.
Nope. Corona said it hasn’t happened yet. He’s still playing ODU and Marshall. At least until Monday happens.Joe Golding went from playing teams like Tarleton State to playing teams like Tarleton State.

It will be good to see BCG in the Don again. 😀Joe Golding went from playing teams like Tarleton State to playing teams like Tarleton State.

Weren't you giving Natty Light shit for suggestions teams in small stadiums? Has the NCAA allowed an attendance waiver for them?

Tarleton’s basketball arena will be the worst thing you’ve seen at the D1 level.

My bad I don't keep up with WAC schools. I don't even know how you found that. I googled "Tarleton State football stadium" and that doesn't even come up. There are stories from 2009. That article was realesed less than an hour ago. It’s not yours

Tarleton Memorial Stadium to continue expansion over next 18 months - Tarleton State University Athletics
STEPHENVILLE – As Tarleton continues to make its push to the highest level of the NCAA, Memorial Stadium is expected to receive a significant upgrade over the nexttarletonsports.com
“ The revival and sudden growth of the Western Athletic Conference has created an exciting opportunity to look beyond the FCS level and towards FBS," he continued. "Our mission is to continue to elevate the profile of Tarleton State University and creating a venue with anywhere between 20-25,000 brings opportunities and excitement to the Stephenville community and Tarleton State University."
Tarleton has already increased stadium seating to 16,600 for the remainder of this season. The expansion of Memorial Stadium will include the permanent seating additions with endzone seats to connect the east and west sides the stadium.”
Click on the reference section of that wiki article. Takes you to the updated page on their website. I know who has shitty stadiums and arenas. Every single school in D1. By 2023 they'll have a bigger stadium than ODU, Charlotte and WKU.Click on the reference section of that wiki article. Takes you to the updated page on their website. The biggest failure is not giving a damn about your very own athletic programs for thirty years by Natalcio and UTEPS administration
I guess that's a good point. Though things have escalated quickly, they don't take effect til 2023. In that time Utep an the remaining 5 will be getting some much needed money from the teams leaving. During that time Utep definitely needs to be doing some makeovers and getting pretty for the next Ball that comes around. All we can do is hope that whatever CUSA looks like in 2 years, Utep wins and dominates in both Football, men's/women's Basketball, and other sports for good measure. Most importantly upgrades the Sun bowl and a new indoor practice facility or something nicer. Best case scenario, it becomes a decent Group of 5 league, but that's asking alot and depends on who they end up adding. Or UTEP makes itself attractive enough to get called up the next time. Most likely it'll be teams like Tarleton St. who do take their football very seriously, Sam Houston, Mc Neese St. and Missouri St. I would be very happy if somehow N. Dakota St. and S. Dakota St. move up as well. If that happens and the success from FCS can translate to FBS, we'll have a decent enough Football League and maybe get a decent TV Contract. However none of those teams will be large market teams, but if they can beat some Big names that'll help. We're all anxious right now so hopefully Monday the CUSA Commish makes an announcement on potential teams. Until then Happy Recovery Week for Utep Football!By 2023 they'll have a bigger stadium than ODU, Charlotte and WKU.

This has been the longest week in UTEP sports history...and that's saying a lot. I knew we had a bye week but thought the FAU game was tomorrow. But...Noooo!! I think that ship has sailed. We’re honestly in the worst position imaginable. We have no accolades to show for. We’re basically left with accepting the landscape as it unfolds…Man we need to get the f--k outta CUSA.
Yeah alot to keep Miner fans busy with in a bye week. Hope it doesn't take away from the great start the football team is having. This has been the longest week in UTEP sports history...and that's saying a lot. Let's hope for unexpected good news next week. Go LaTech! Beat the roadrunners and soften them up for us!
$30,000,000 in exit fees. I don't think the fees will decrease because the defectors have nothing to bargain with. That money is gonna buy some persuasion to build a new conference and buy upgrades for ourselves.
I like Judy's statement about a more regional conference. Nothing wrong with a Rocky Mtn/Texas league. But with a bunch of FCS schools coming in, our upcoming media rights contract is gonna suck.
Obviously, ESPiN is still trying to assassinate us. They are having their minions take every school with potential. I wouldn't be surprised to see LA Tech get an invite from some ESPiN property soon.
That said, somebody is going to grab North Dakota State. It should be us.
I agree with Corona. It's UTEP's conference now. Let's hope our administration is up to the task.
McNeese has great fans but horrible facillities.I'm sure those teams have expressed interest. Earlier we heard McNeese St.
A few weeks ago we heard Colorado St to the AAC was done.
Until it happens it hasn't happened.
About 10K of that population are in the various prisons that surround the city. Including the ones on death row.SHSU - 20 million athletic budget. 116.8m endowment. 21k students. Huntsville TX population 45k
Which sports are you referring to? Their basketball arena is 3 years old and their football stadium doesn’t look bad to me - for their current levelMcNeese has great fans but horrible facillities.

If the ultimate goal is to get into the MWC, then I'd rather have a competitive conference than one built around us. If this is another attempt for UTEP to align with Texas rather than the west, I don't know what to say. CUSA right now should be nothing more than a temporary place to collect NCAA credits until something better comes along. I'm fairly sure that MT and WKU are out when that happens. We should be too.I wasn't around this board 15 years ago to counter the point that UTEP would be the flagship. I would have used data available to ground those statements.
We where the last school invited to CUSA.
After everyone leaves, this new version of CUSA is building around us. That has never been the case while in CUSA.
None of the new schools have the financial backing, fan support or are in the metro areas of CUSA schools from 15 years ago.
Of the schools mentioned so far
SHSU - 20 million athletic budget. 116.8m endowment. 21k students. Huntsville TX population 45k
Tarleton St - 7.8m athletic budget. 42m endowment. 14k students. Stephenville TX population 20k.
Mc Nesse St - 12m athletic budget. 87m endowment. 7k students. Lake Charles, La population 84k.
NMSU - 28m athletic budget. 235m endowment, 14k students. Las Cruces, NM population 111k.
I don't think it's that far fetched to claim CUSA is catering to us since they're attempting to construct us a more regional conference. Which is exactly what some people wanted. "We can't win in CUSA so let's drop to FCS." Now that we're bringing regional FCS schools up to FBS those same people aren't happy either.
That’s what I read too, as to why they would join the WAC. Though Tarleton was already in the WAC and never in the SLC.Also, one of the reasons SHSU, SFASU, Lamar, Tarleton, and ACU left the Southland was the Louisiana schools (McNeese, Nichols, Northwestern and SELA) were dragging their feet on upgrading their sports programs (with the thought of moving up to FBS). And now suddenly McNeese is being mentioned as a CUSA team. Interesting.

Tarleton State has some possible upside. Those aTm ties…That’s what I read too, as to why they would join the WAC. Though Tarleton was already in the WAC and never in the SLC.
I am surprised to see McNeese’s name as well. Whether there’s any validity to it, I suspect we will find out soon. If Tarleton St can go from D2 to FBS in a few years, I guess anything is possible.
No argument from me there. Especially in football. Even with Billy, their basketball team shouldn’t be on the same level as UTEP.Tarleton State has some possible upside. Those aTm ties…
Only problem is there are no competitive conferences that want us. And our options for competitive FCS teams ready and or willing to move up are extremely limited. If the ultimate goal is to get into the MWC, then I'd rather have a competitive conference than one built around us. I would say we need to be competitive. Win 3/4 years football titles (using Man City as an example) win basketball and be in the top three for mens and womens. Soccer and softball top 5 would be a plus. We need competitiveness all around. My pipe dream goals of course.Only problem is there are no competitive conferences that want us. No wants this to be our forever home. While we're in it, for as long as it is, we must make it as comfortable as we can for ourselves.
Assuming the best FCS schools possible join CUSA. Then they start kicking our candy a$s and they get picked to the AAC or MW. How did being in a competitive conference full of FCS teams help us?
