Coach Terry makes 1st UTEP offer / Basketball Recruiting

Still alot to happen, but how does this 2019 starting 5 sound....
G- Evan Gilyard
G- Isaiah Osborne
F- Anthony Tarke
F- Bryson Williams
C- Kaosi Ezeagu.... Sounds Good to me!

I know that Osborne would be the Senior in 2019, but I would love to see Hawkins turn out to the be the type of player that can replace Osborne early as the starting SG. We’ve gotten excited about the newer commits, but Hawkins still might be considered the best signee of this class(at least based on the high number of quality schools that were recruiting him).

Hawkeye is the man. Also; don't forget Efe Odigie at 6'9 275 lbs( per Miner Rush). With Efe and Eze in the paint that'll be fun to watch.
There's a load of talent piling up.

Now thats what I'm talking about. We may have even bigger recruits between now and then, but starting with Williams would be great! Just think how strong and exciting will our bench could be too.

What is Williams eligibility status...2018 or 2019? Also what about Jordan Evans...18 or 19?

His athleticism is thru the damn roof. I can see him flourishing in a 3 guard line up.

And I’m thinking we shouldn’t sleep on any of Terry’s recruits. Not so sure Osborne’s spot is a guarantee.
We haven't had an athlete like Stroud (at his size) in a while. Cameron was close but never got the time of day under Floyd. I showed this video to my son and he said that Floyd would have told him to stop dunking! It's so true how many athletes regressed in the old regime. If Stroud can bring the thunder in live games it will bring that excitment back that we haven't had in some time.

Don’t sleep on Stroud. A 6’3 small forward, Omar Thomas type.

OT was no where near as athletic as Stroud. OT’s game was so smooth, and he played below the rim. Stroud is two inches shorter but this kid looks athletic as hell. If he can dribble drive he could be a bigger Randy Culpepper IMO and I’m just basing that on the fact that he is the only guy in recent memory that was super athletic.

Actually Omar Thomas arrived at the NBA combine and measured 6’3. So I am comaparing the 2 as both guys who play forward at that height and play much bigger than they are.

Ok. I just saw on Wikipedia that he was listed as 6’5”. You think OT played bigger than he was? I only question that because his game was not above the rim like this kid’s. OT was definitely one of my favorite Miners since Hardaway but I don’t remember him jumping out of the gym. He just knew how to finish at the hole.

I know this is later in his career but you can tell he still had that knack to get points. But wasn’t the knock on OT coming out of college that he wasn’t quick enough for SG and he wasn’t athletic or big enough for SF in the NBA?

OT was strong and knew how to use his body. Did it for 10 years in Europe and I think he even won the Italian POY award. He was just 6'4" in his stocking feet but was just very confident and strong.

OT was my favorite player to watch and if it's true what some of you are saying that Stroud can be as good or even better. Exciting to watch it unfold with this new chapter of CRT regime.
Is it October next week.
Lets get it on

So Luna hasnt answered any of our questions. Unless i missed it?

Was Mr. Canada the big news?

And if you cant answer the question whats the point of putting that news out there?

I think it was Eze. After he committed Luna posted this tweet.

Not that its a big deal but...

Omar Thomas, F, UTEP, sr – 6’3.25 200, 6’8

What we knew: WAC standout that dominated bigger players in that conference using quick post moves, athleticism, and a mean streak.

What we found out: We knew Thomas was only listed at 6’5, but it’s still shocking to see him come in at just 6’3.25 without shoes. It was very clear even in Chicago that he’s not going to be able to play the type of game he did in college at the next level, and that’s a shame. His midrange jumper is money and he does have some WF skills, but even there Thomas is somewhat undersized. - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Jonathan-Watters--Pre-Draft-Camp-Recap-1006/ ©DraftExpress

Reminds me of Mark McCall.

That’s a fair breakdown of Thomas. I wen’t off what he was listed on Wikipedia so for whatever reason they never listed him correctly even after all these years. So was definitely an undersized SF. But going back to my original point do you remember OT getting up above the rim like Stroud?

Do you remember Darius Mattear? That dude was a flyer. You're right, OT was much more savvy than athletic.

There is no real comparison of the two. Totally different players.
