Coach Terry makes 1st UTEP offer / Basketball Recruiting

I don't think Tarke's NLI is binding since it didn't come during the signing period. No player is required to sign an NLI. The U. cannot comment on a recruit until he is officially signed so if the Miners official Web page has not posted anything about a player then they have not signed and are still open to recruiting.

You know very well that the page doesn't get updated on a regular
basis. Plenty of times we find the answer via other means.

They post on their official twitter page everyday. You won't find anything on it that says Stroud signed. therefore, he is only a verbal commit. furthermore, if he were to sign at this point it would be non-binding.

Right now we have signed NLIs from Odigie, Hawkins and Tarke.

D1 transfers sign financial aid agreements, which as jdubb66 has mentioned are non binding, and are not limited to the May 16th deadline, as is the case for high school and JC recruits. If Ezeagu and Stroud did not sign their LOIs, that could be significant. My concern is not so much of them flipping over to another school, but more in terms of eligibility. Both of these guys attended Prep schools which often complicates the clearinghouse process. It would be nice to get an update on their official status. Really, we need all the bodies onboard for next year. Right now, we have just enough guys for a nice 3 on 3 half court game.

Exactly. I have mentioned this before as Stroud reclassified and Ezeagu is coming from Canada. Why were schools not all over Ezeagu? It's making me nervous. We only have 8 players as it is. I guess I'm used to all the Floyd BS.

That article is from back in 2017. I am sure Coach Terry made sure
Eze was good to go. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Go Miners...
I know but it does mention the Clearinghouse issue, and I'm not sure that he ever officially visited South Carolina. I'm not comparing the two coaches, but how many times did we hear that someone would be eligible in the past 7 years! I think we will contend in 2019 , but these guys need experience and we need to field a team in 2018. My fingers are crossed too.

I'll believe Terry until he proves uncredible.

If, Ezeagu is not cleared is anyone on this board not willing to accept that this team is being for 2019 and beyond?

I think that’s quite possible. And I am willing to be patient if that turns out to be his plan. I have said from the beginning that I give Terry a pass this year...as far as wins/losses.

But as axing said too, even if the team is being built for 2019-20, as many of the newbies as possible need to get their feet wet this upcoming season to be ready when that time arrives.

UTEP last had basketball camps under Barbee. Not sure why Floyd didn't have them. Guesses:
1. Floyd thought he was too good for them
2. Floyd was lazy and didn't want to put it the work to have one.
3. Floyd already had enough money and didn't care to run one.
4. Floyd didn't think enough talent would come in to play here
5. All of the above

I'll choose #5

Who showed up at the Tony Barbee camp? Any good players?

Actually, Floyd kind of broached that topic (it wasn't that specific) with some sports media a couple of years back. I can't remember whom, but basically he knew his name carried value in the college recruiting circuit. Now I know most of us are salty towards Floyd and rightly so, however, he didn't mean it in the arrogant sense. Egotistical, perhaps. But he knew his name carried weight. Now did he use it effectively is whole different animal and open to interpretation among hard core UTEP fans. So no, he didn't think he needed to have the recruiting camps, basically.

Can you copy and past the description or put up a screenshot? Most of us don't have the insider access. Thanks in advance

Strengths:
Stroud can easily be mentioned as one of the top athletes the 2019 class. He is an electrifying dunker and slashing wing. His ability to explode off of one or two feet and elevate around and through defenders makes him different. Stroud has excellent length and is a potential elite defender because of his wingspan (6'11), quick lateral movement and fast twitch capabilities. Stroud also posses a strong motor and does a great job running in transition and cutting off the ball for attack opportunities. Stroud is a shot blocker and can rebound outside of his area and push in transition.

Weaknesses:
At this point Stroud's upside is undeniable but he must tighten up and improve his weak areas. Stroud can knock down a shot but must develop into a very good shooter to create more close out situations for his slashing/attacking game. Stroud must continue working on his mid range game to be a complete threat in the half court set. Stroud's ball handling and decision making off the bounce must continue to progress as he attempts to elevate his stock this upcoming spring/summer.

Bottom Line:
Stroud is an extraordinary athlete with no ceiling to his game. Offensively he's not raw but he's also not polished. As of today, Stroud is potential more than production but has all the gifts and tools to be a high major recruit. In the open court he's dynamic and is not afraid to display his athleticism at any given moment. Stroud is still developing and will be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on.

Sure would be nice. If we ever are fortunate enough to land one, he’ll be gone within 2 years in this day and age. Even so, I’d still be good with another like TH. He was sooooo damn good!
Gym Bice. Best damn underrated UTEP pg who's number will never hang up high but was tough, consistent, even keeled, ran Haskin's offense efficiently and stoic when on the floor. Legend has it that he literally lived in Memorial Gym.

May he R.I.P.

I Think Alvarez could've vrfn that player in time one of the Florida schools in Cusa is getting a steal

He commited to Fairfield so we won't see him in CUSA. I think he considered UTEP but between Gilyard, McGee and NightHawk, I think he was hesitant. He wanted to be closer to home anyway.

Oh ok thanks I'm curious to follow his progression, I really liked this kid, but yeah with Gilyard and Magee he may have even had to redshirt

Obviously, Wichita State really wanted him.
