If we don't have a football season

Exactly. Nobody said it it easy, but it's not hard either. I showed you the evidence of NMSU's future schedules.
What a joke. If it’s not hard then why only five home games? Why H&A with the same team in the same season? Why only one or two home games in the last 6 weeks of the schedule? Why three paydays? Why ask UTEP to move dates around, twice?

Your evidence is weak. They have a series scheduled with UNM and another series with Liberty. That’s it. Not even a series with UTEP is scheduled. They still need to schedule 10 more games. Our schedule that far out is pretty much done. Maybe looking for two more games. It’s much easier to schedule when you’re in a conference.

Sure we could and it would suck. It’s not fan friendly at all. Next year the nmsu schedule has one home game from Oct 2 to November 20th. Why give up on trying to win conference/division titles? I’ve never experienced a bowl win but to me the best season was when we were WAC champions. I don’t think going 6-6 and winning the whatever bowl would produce the same dopamine as a conference title.

Not true. Utah State is in Las Cruces on November 6.

That was the only season UTEP has ever won a conference championship in “recent” times and even then they shared it. And got destroyed by the team they shared it with. So once every 75 years the Miners will have a season like that.

What’s wrong with giving up on conference titles when you just said UTEP would be a bottom dweller in FCS?

Exactly. It's like when the Diablos went to Indy ball. Nobody went because of the caliber of the players. Sure there were former and future Major Leaguers playing, but the overall play is nothing compared to AAA.

Probably had something to do with it, but that wasn’t everything. They didn’t keep up the field and maybe the Northeast wasn’t the best location for Cohen Stadium.

Attendance was good with AA baseball. Not like with AAA now, but it was still good.

The Independent League All-Star game in El Paso sold out and had the highest ever attendance.

People like good entertainment. The Chihuahuas portray that. UTEP athletics is boring.

What’s not true? That’s their only home game between 10/2 - 11/20.

You are right, UTEP’s home games would be limited in October and November. Let’s run off all the late season home game excuses

130pm November kickoffs suck!
It’s too cold!
It’s the same weekend as the Halloween parties!
They suck anyway!

The right hire can change everything. UNT was getting blown out by 60 to an FCS team a few years ago. Right now this UTEP team would be a bottom dweller in any D1 league in America. With the right hire that can be changed. What can’t be changed is winning a football conference title when we are not in a conference.

Well “winning” 1 conference title in 75 years isn’t really a viable concern, but if you want to keep that dream alive, you do you.

I sure will. I’m 99% sure if UTEP wins a football conference championship most will celebrate it like we just won the Super Bowl.

Remember the difference in Kugler's teams when Showers was playing QB? When he went out with injury the team simply could not function on offense anymore. If by some chance Dimel has a reasonably decent team this year but no quality QB, would it be worthwhile to bring in the troubled TT QB that would have immediate eligibility? No one will sign him but he was very talented. Does UTEP need to take that kind of chance?

UTEP has to take all the chances they can get. If the waterboy can throw a football, sign him up.

We hire these old coaches with old ideals and no imagination. Hire so “ kid” who wants to make a name for himself or even something more radical hire a young woman coach!
If they found one the stadium would be packed and the national media would be here every week. And could you imagine the players who would want that attention.

I’m all for women being hired for jobs and being leaders when they traditionally have not, but I don’t think you will see a women coaching FCS/FBS ball any time soon. I don’t care how butchy she might be.

At this point, hire Art Briles. I don’t care anymore. Win balls games.

It took them two years to chair back three small sections. My dream of having the entire gold section chair backed will take a long ass time if Senter is in charge.

To be fair, these things cost money. They also decided to do this at probably the football teams lowest point in popularity. Not like there is a demand for football tickets. If the football season is played without fans/cancelled, this will probably be the last upgrade the Sun Bowl receives for decades.

This project is probably the easiest and least expensive upgrade possible. Our conference mate tore down and rebuilt a new stadium faster than it took us to chair back three sections. If we had attempted that, IMO we would still be making landfill trips to Clint.

Maybe so, but apples to oranges. ODU doesn’t have 70 years of pathetic football. They have a brand new team. Their original stadium was built in 1936 and was re-built at 22,000 seats.

If in 2090, ODU was one conference championship and was 2-10 seasons on the regular, they won’t be getting stadium upgrades either.

Did UTEP do a great job at the upgrades? Probably not. Does it matter? Not really.

UAB just won their first conference title in 2018. They're building a new 175 million dollar stadium. Either way our performance on the field has nothing to do with how bad this upgrade to the stadium was managed.

Their program was killed and fundraising and state pressure brought it back. They too were playing in an old stadium. The upper deck was condemned at one point and is considered in a “bad” part of town.

The fans and city stood behind their shitty program and now they're thriving. Seems a lot better than the ”stop buying tickets” approach.

Attendance for their final home game vs LaTech last year 18,346. They won the division and had a successful season, yet only had 18k for their last home. Yeah, the fans and city are really supporting them!

Who cares. They won a conference title, a bowl game, have a million-dollar coach, and are going to build a 175 million stadium. The financial support is there.

UTEP is fine as Senter, Dismel, and Terry have not taken any paycuts. Attendance does not matter, only the coaching and recruiting does.
