Bring on the Rice!

All comes down to shutting down the 3 again. Having a good game from our bigs would help too. Thomas was a monster last time. Wilmms was hit with a quick 2.

Yup, Rice plays Marshall basketball. Heave up the three's and hope for a win. UTEP has to contain Koulechov and Evans to have a chance. They contained Evans last match up but Egor had a sold game against UTEP. Pound, pound, pound inside with Wilms, Thomas and Jones.

We really just need to contain one of the two, imo. Most trips down the court will be a one and done for Rice. Like you alluded to, our size is going to overwhelm them again. Especially if the 3 you mentioned can stay out of early foul trouble...or at least if two of the three can.

Unless UAB beats la Tech tonight the conference can expect smaller crowds for the semifinals and championship game. It's time to bring the tournament back to El Paso.

Some, not all, CUSA coaches and their AD's fight El Paso like hell. They have a legit complaint as far as cost and distance, so I support a neutral major city venue or it should be awarded to the conference champ as a reward for a good conference season. UTEP and El Paso "shows the money" and woo's the CUSA heads, so in turn, the southern CUSA coaches team up against UTEP and get behind UAB as an alternative.

The problem is CUSA fanbases don't travel well. Hell they don't even show up at their own cities to watch the local team. As evidence from the shitty attendance numbers across the league. Birmingham is sort of centrally located city. Aside from the cheerleaders and a couple of the opposing players nobody watched any of the other three games not involving UAB. Even that game didn't have the announced attendance on hand. The traveling a long distance excuse is bs. The tournament needs a city where there will be a strong local support. El Paso has proved we will support events not involving UTEP. The Sun Bowl, Texas vs the Nation all star game and even the previous CUSA tournaments. We do have a couple of thousand of locals that will go and enjoy a some basketball teams that don't have UTEP on the front of their jersey. The last CUSA championship game had over 5,000 in attendance in El Paso. Almost all the teams in the league would kill for those kind of numbers at their school.

I know utsa is not good...but Middle Tennessee is really good! Ok, ok...lets get past Rice.
