Coach Terry makes 1st UTEP offer / Basketball Recruiting

Assuming Stroud did indeed reclassify as a 2018 recruit, his visit to UTEP was an unofficial. That indicates he still has some work to do to become eligible. If he is unable to qualify for 2018 (hoping this is not the case), he looks like a great Prop guy. Actually, the extra year may benefit him in getting stronger, and to continue to develop his skills. Nice pickup for sure.

I’m usually not impressed with videos of kids dunking just because that doesn’t mean much because that’s like the least important skill in basketball. But that is some super athleticism. Plus I liked his step back jumper. I wonder if he can hit it consistently when people play him tighter.

Boom! What a pick up. In the 11th hour CRT still calm as a cat, going for quality over quantity.

If we can land Ezeagu and Niang I won’t ask for a single thing for Christmas.
+1! Stroud will bring our crowd to its feet. If we get the two bigs then we are cookin. This is a young team but the future looks bright already.

How can you reclassify and have work to do? Do you mean he has to cram to finish the required courses or do you think his grades are bad??

Or possibly the lack of a qualifying test score. Hate to speculate with really no true knowledge of his situation. I just think it is a bit odd he did not seem to make officials to other schools. Hopefully he's a guy like Ramon Sessions, from Nevada years ago, who ended up qualifying late; assuming that is the case with Stroud.

"Rodney Terry and his staff went back to California with their latest commit, snagging a commitment from Fresno guard Deon Stroud.

Stroud, 6’3, 175 pounds, was originally a 2019 recruit, but reclassified and will join the Miners next year according to sources.

ESPN rates him as a three-star prospect, and was selected to the Fresno Bee’s All-Star team as a sophomore in high school. Stroud went to Las Vegas ahead of last season to play at Trinity International in hopes of taking his recruitment to the next level at the basketball focused prep school."

Looks like Terry is concerned about the Long Game at Utep. Could be Special in 2 or 3 years. Floyd left us in bad shape. This won't be overnight.

Looking pretty good so far. I'm curious to see how this all plays out.

Our preseason's were always plagued with so much drama, that it'll be intersting to see how a CRT class compares to a typical CTF class (recruit retention, player retention, etc).

It'll be 2 or 3 years before we're likely competitive again, but seems like we'r heading in a positive direction

I can hike the long road when a mountain of gold can be seen in the distance.

LOL. That's pretty good.

Floyd put UTEP in a tough spot, or should I say he did it to himself. Floyd was a X's and O's master but like I've said many times before, his recruiting left a direct impact on fans and on the court. Not saying CRT will not have his share of departures but previous UTEP coaches didn't share his burden of rearranging looking for mac n cheese in the cubbard like a freshman in his new college dorm room. You want a coach who is like grandma....she knows where everything is in the kitchen and where it belongs.

Let it be so, USAFminersfan, let it be so.

I know you don't come to a message board expecting to read about patience. Patience? What's that?

But we UTEP followers have been disappointed, in so many ways, for so long, we're hungry. Actually, we're starving. Time to eat!

I think UTEPlandia may have laid it on a little too thick if we don't land him. This wasn't as strong as the Alex Galindo visit to UTEP years back (he wound up at Kansas) that appeared to make him feel somewhat awkward because the scenarios were almost similar to Likekele.
I'm starting to feel a little turned off. If he comes.... great! If he doesn't, I think we'll be fine. We certainly don't want to make him a
primadonna either way.

Just visited OSU site and they say it's between Them and Tech inferring that UTEP isn't even in the picture.

Oh no, no. No way Miner fans would ever do that.

Wow weird choice

Their coach made 3 NCAAs and 5 NITs at Akron before taking this job after last season. He also coached some marginal player named LeBron for 2 years in high school. Pittsburgh > El Paso.

Yeah, totally weird!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think he comes to Utep because utep is already loaded with guards. Utep needs wings and bigs.

I still believe we’re holding pocket Aces with Terry. He will commit to UTEP. He’s just soaking in all the media attention. Good on him to enjoy this recruiting process. At the end of the day he will be loyal to Terry.

I’m sure they are assuming...being that they are P5 schools. Their fans can’t imagine someone might want to be a big fish in a smaller pond.

I would imagine that they know as much, or rather as little, as we do.
