Forum guidelines

These boards are meant to be a place to respectfully discuss all things UTEP. Disagreements and conflicting opinions are expected and often necessary for productive discourse.

Because most users are anonymous and we’re all communicating behind the distant security of a screen, it’s easy to say things that you wouldn’t say to a person’s face.

The boards will be moderated according to the following guidelines:

  • Racist or sexist comments will not be tolerated, this will now be strictly enforced.

  • No attacking other posters. Do not bring up their name in posts that they did not start or were not involved in, and do not start posts just to talk about them and get a reaction. Do not consistently respond to their posts with no merit other than to belittle them.

  • Do not post unsubstantiated rumors about anyone that could be considered libelous.

  • No political threads of any kind, only acceptable threads are OT posts related to sports or El Paso, Texas, New Mexico or other local topics of conversations, pop culture threads will be reviewed so tread lightly please.

  • Any derailments of thread topics will result in warnings and possible bans, please stay on topic on said thread.

  • Criticism of UTEP is allowed and encouraged if that criticism is supported by reasonable facts and opinion. That does not mean you have free range to bash or alienate a player or coach with your comments. If you disagree with how they played or the effort they put forward, please voice your opinion and state why you hold that opinion. If it's something you would not say to their faces, then don't post it.

  • Posting of commercial offers, competing websites, or spamming of the board will not be permitted.

  • No pornographic or obscene material of any kind.

  • No posting or distributing any material that infringes and/or violates any right of a third party or any law.

Personal attacks on anyone -- whether an anonymous poster or outside person -- will not be tolerated.

Report any content that violates these guidelines.

Wow, the CBI

It's the second year in a row that no "power" conferences will touch it. The following participants all have losing records:

Coastal Carolina, Hampton, UIC, Loyola (MD), and Utah Valley.

It used to be that there would be one or two teams with losing records, and they were the "power" conference teams. With this kind of field, I'm not sure a CBI championship means anything at all.

The CIT will probably survive, since it's tailored for mid-majors and they only take teams with winning records. I'm not sure how many more seasons the CBI will survive. Well, as long as there is an abundance of 15-17 teams willing to pay to play, I guess it will limp along, but who wants to watch that?

Thursday Night

Wish I could be in EP for this week's games. What a meaningful game Thursday. Was just thinking that what interrupted our 11-2 run were four(4) points...Three at W.Ky. and one vs. La Tech. We could easily be 13-3 in conference and 15-13 overall. All this after being 2-13. Regardless of how the rest of the season turns out; this is a degree of gratification not experienced by me in a long, long time. I sincerely hope that the casual fans in EP are aware of the turnaround and the importance of these next two games considering there is essentially no newspaper source anymore. There needs to be a big campaign to get the Don packed. The team; players and coaches deserve some support.

OT: Would U. of AZ leave Pac-12 for the Big 12?

A writer for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson wrote a column about it.
  1. A trip to Texas is 893 miles from Tucson. That's almost as close as it is to Cal (858 miles). A game at Oklahoma is 954 miles. Arizona goes 1,282 miles to play Oregon. How about distant Iowa State? That's 1,427 miles from Tucson. An Arizona game in Seattle is 1,538 miles.
  2. The Pac-12 Networks has little clout, distribution woes and has not been the money-maker projected. It became even more confusing this basketball season when regional feeds became unavailable in other league markets.
  3. ESPN's Pac-12 correspondent, Ted Miller, last week wrote: "There doesn't seem to be much momentum inside the posh Pac-12 offices in the most expensive city in the United States to do the nutty thing and, you know, cut expenses so the 12 universities could get more money.

"Moving the headquarters (to Salt Lake City) also might inspire a winnowing of the executive-level, big-paycheck bloat that university administrators are beginning to notice now that the euphoria of the rights deal fades."
I wonder if Colorado U. is having second thoughts about why it left the Big 12 for PAC-12.

And that is why the Women are not ranked.

15 point road loss in CUSA. Fact is, they have had a great season thus far, but fact also is they haven't really played anyone. And the day they actually played someone worthwhile on the road, they lose.

No shame in losing to Marshall at Marshall. This is by no means a post to belittle the WBB program, it is a post targeted at all of those Sportstalk callers, and mssg board posters who called and posted many times that the women should be ranked.

Again, they are having a good season, but they aren't ranked material.
